Wrapping, Printing and Labelling in Packaging

Static Electricity causes severe problems throughout the packaging industry including wrapping, printing and labelling.  Fraser offers cost-effective solutions to all of these problems.  A few typical applications are shown below:

Wrapping Machines

If the film sticks to the product, or machine, place a 1250-Slot Bar at the last position where the film is in free air before wrapping the product.  If the unwinding film will not leave the reel, or wraps around rollers, it should be neutralised  by a 1250 Airboost Bar just after the unwind.  If large reels are used, then a long range 3850 Ionstorm Bar could be used.

The same principles apply to over-wrappers, flow-wrappers and shrink-wrappers.

Inkjet  Marking and Checkweighers

The static charge on plastic products, or products wrapped in plastic film can distort the ink pattern or upset the electronics.  It can also form into a discharge which can damage the print head or electronics.

This can be overcome by installing a 1250-Slot Bar as shown.  If the variation in product height is more than about 100mm, the 1250-S Bar should be adjustable in height or a long range 3850 Bar or 2000 Blower should be used.

Label Applicator

The static charge could be in the label, or on the Product, for example a plastic bottle.

Careful positioning of a 1250-Slot Static Eliminator Bar can cure both problems.  The Bar should be aimed at the product and also the label as it leaves the applicator, as shown in the sketch.  If the product indexes before the labelling head, a second Bar could be required slightly upstream.
